Happy Hour in Detroit

Weekdays can be so routine and begin to feel like" Groundhog Day."  Day in and day out you repeat the same process over and over. You wake early every morning, get dressed and fight rush hour to make it to work. Once the workday is over you fight rush hour to get home, eat dinner, watch television and then off to bed, and start the process all over again. Research has shown by switching up your day-to-day routine can improve a person self-esteem, personal relationships and personal happiness.

Why not break up the monotony and stop by a local Happy Hour before heading home.  Happy hour can be a good way to relax, and unwind after a long day at work. You can avoid the headache of driving home in rush hour.  It is a great way to socialized with co-workers, meet new business contacts, while enjoying great drinks and delicious appetizers. Many Happy Hour drinks are made with top shelf liquor, that can cost you between $8-$12 and you can enjoy them for half the price.

You can also get great deals on food that is much better than cheap fast-food. Its a great way to eat well on a tight budget, especially during happy hour at an upscale restaurant where the food is quality. The city has several places to enjoy and unwind after a long hard day of work.

DETROIT NIGHTLIFE

No, you don't have to travel to New York City, Las Vegas or Miami for an exciting nightlife experience anymore.  Some of the most exciting places to party are located in Detroit. Yes, I said Detroit. Detroit nightlife offers a variety of places to suit everyone. If you're looking for ambiance, a trendy hotspot or someplace with great music, where you can dance the night away. Detroit has it to offer.

If you like to party and dance V Night Club is one hottest places in the city. Located inside the MGM Grand Casino. On any given weekend, you will find long lines, with partygoers standing behind the velvet ropes, unless you're VIP. With its  spacious dance floor, live dancers and electrifying light shows, you can dance the night away, while the DJ mixes hip-hop, techno and old school.

For good food, drinks, happy hour or a night of partying Centaur Bar is the place to be. Located on Park Street behind the Fox Theatre. You can hang out at the bar on the first level and enjoy a tower of appetizers or half off bottles of wine on Wednesdays. Happy hour is 4 pm-7pm Sunday through Thursday, where all appetizers are half off. On the weekends there is a live DJ, the dress code is relaxed and there is never a cover charge. You can enjoy a game of pool on the second level or sit at the bar and enjoy one of the bars signature martinis.

MARTINI MONDAY

Whether it shaken or stirred. Who doesn't love a good martini?  My all time favorite go to martini would be a Cosmopolitan or Cosmo for short. Remember HBO's hit "Sex and the City." It was the favorite drink of Carrie Bradshaw and her friends. It seemed that Carrie and her friends indulged in this libation almost every night. I started drinking Cosmopolitans during the "Sex and the City" era, and haven't stopped. It has become my drink of choice.

The Cosmopolitan dates back as far 1934, when it was made with gin instead of vodka, its other ingredients were the same used today. Today's Cosmopolitan is made with vodka, Cointreau, lime juice, cranberry juice and garnished with a lime or other citrus fruit. I prefer to use Ciroc Redberry Vodka in my Cosmopolitan.

I frequent many restaurants and bars in the metropolitan Detroit area. Many of these places make great Cosmopolitans, some are okay and some are just horrible. Here are some my favorite places in downtown Detroit, where I go to enjoy a good Cosmopolitan.

La Casa Cigar and Martin Lounge, 502 Randolph St. www.lacasadelahabana
24 Grille inside the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, 204 Michigan Ave. www.24grille.com
The Detroit Seafood Market, 1535 Randolph St. www.thedetroitseafoodmarket.com

Here is my recipe for a delicious Cosmopolitan:

Ciroc Redberry Cosmopolitan Recipe

1.5 oz. Ciroc Redberry Vodka
.5 oz. Cointreau
.25oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz. Cranberry Juice

Shake ingredients together with ice. Strain in a chilled glass. Garnish with lime.
